Staff

In Class 1, the class teacher is called Miss Smith and our teaching assistant is Mrs Dexter. On Tuesday afternoon and Thursday, Miss Smith will be out of class and during these times, Mrs Griffiths will be teaching the class on Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Ronson on Thursday.

Word lists

Please find enclosed a word list for the whole of Year 1 which shows the first 100 high frequency words and the Year 1 Common Exception words. The children need to be able to read and spell all of the common exception words by the end of Year 1. These words will be the words that are sent out each week as part of their spellings.

Spellings

Every Friday your child will have a spelling test, the words that your child will be tested on, will be given out each Monday or Friday in their spelling books. We will aim to return all spelling books each Friday so that you have them for the weekend. Spellings will be given out for the first time on Monday the 7th of September. Please can you make sure that spelling books are in your child’s book bags every Friday.

Corrections to work

In the children’s books, I encourage them to put a circle around any mistakes that they make. This is so that I can see where they have gone wrong and help them to remedy their errors.

P.E.

PE is on Thursday and Friday each week and if any children wear earrings could you please remove them on these days or cover these with tape/a plaster.

Children will need to come to school in their PE kit and they will remain in their kit after their PE session is over. Depending on the weather, please can you send your child in an indoor/outdoor PE kit (white t-shirt / blue or black shorts or bottoms / blue or black jumper or hoody, socks and blue or black bottoms) as well as some outdoor pumps or trainers.

Spare clothes

If possible, could your child have a spare pair of pants and socks in case of accidents or wet feet. These can be kept in a small bag and left on your child’s peg in the cloakroom.

Art

All children can bring in an old large t-shirt or shirt for when we are doing art. Please can this be labelled with their name in it.

Water bottles

Please can you send your child each day with a filled water bottle. If your child drinks all of their water whilst at school, this can be filled at the water tower outside our classroom.

Book Bags/ Bags

Please can all children only bring their book bags to school each day. Our cloakroom is small and there is very little space for rucksacks and extra bags.

Book bags will go home each night. Your child’s reading book needs to be left in their bags and brought back to school each day.

Homework

The children will receive the following homework.

Letters

All letters from school will be put in the children’s book bags but most letters will be sent via email.

Library Books

Class 1’s day to visit the library is Tuesday. Please can your child’s library book be brought back each Tuesday.

National Phonics Screening

Your child will take part in the National Phonics Screening during the week commencing the 14th of June 2027. There will be a meeting for parents regarding this screening during the spring term.

Coats and cardigans/jumpers - clothing

Can all children come to school in a coat each day, preferably waterproof, with their names labelled in them as we will be going outside at all breaks and as much as possible. Please can all uniform/clothing have your child’s name written inside or on the label.
