Starting School
On your child's first day, we invite parents and carers to come into the classroom to help their child find their peg and change their shoes before saying goodbye. We find this helps children settle and feel confident in their new environment. From Monday onwards, we kindly ask that parents and carers say goodbye at the classroom door. This helps us establish a calm, consistent start to the day.
Over the course of this week, we will be sending home information about how to sign up for the ParentPay app. Once you have registered, you will be able to use the app to choose your child's school meals for next week and beyond.
We hope the children are feeling excited about starting school. We know that this is a very special milestone, and it is perfectly natural for some children to feel a little nervous too. Please be reassured that our team will be on hand to support them every step of the way. We will focus on helping the children settle in through plenty of play, exploration, and opportunities to get to know their new friends and the adults who will be caring for them.
Our Long Term Plan
Class Dojo
We use Class Dojo to share our children's learning with parents and carers. The children love to receive 'dojo points' for working hard and helping others.
Our Topics
Autumn 1
Amazing Me - We talk about what we look like and things that make us special. We build relationships with staff and other children.
Autumn 2
Super Me - We learn all about people who help us, both at school and in the wider community.
Spring 1
Food, Glorious Food - We talk about our likes and dislikes, and learn about food from all around the world. We grow our own cress and observe plants growing and changing.
Spring 2
Travel and Transport - We learn about other countries and cultures through stories, non-fiction and role-play.
Summer 1
Once upon a Time - We read lots of traditional tales and learn to re-tell them using new vocabulary.
Summer 2
Little Explorers - We explore minibeasts that live on land and under the sea.
