Wise Owls

Welcome to the Wise Owls!

The Year 6 Staff

   We have three members of staff in

Class 6 (sometimes known as the Chuckle Brothers!)

Class Teacher: Miss Hazlewood

TA = Mrs Gorthorpe

HLTA = Mrs Taylor

Key information for the Wise Owls

PE: We have PE on Wednesday and Thursday.

Spellings: Children are given twelve spellings words each week and they also have a 'STINKER' which is a tricky, challenging word. Spellings are given out on a Friday and then children are tested the following Friday.

Homework: We have homework each week on a Friday. This is mostly Maths and Grammar revision from the things we have been learning in the week. We sometimes have key vocabulary from subjects such as Science and History to learn too. Homework has to be handed in by Wednesday.

Educational Visits

Crucial Crew

 Each year, we are invited to attend Crucial Crew. This is where we are taught vital skills to keep us safe. We take part in lots of scenarios throughout the day such as home fire safety, arson, bus safety, road safety, a mock trial, child criminal exploitation, hate and knife crime and first aid.

Robin Hood's Bay Residential

We are very lucky in Year 6 because we are given the amazing opportunity to go on a residential visit to Robin Hood's Bay for a whole week! Children take part in many activities linked to our Geography and History topics. We visit the Whitby museum and learn about Captain Cook, we find out about smuggling in Robin Hood's Bay, we take part in rock pooling and learn about looking after the environment, we do a beach litter pick, we learn about the local economy and how places have changed over time, we also solve a Whitby Murder Mystery and so much more! It really is a great week, with lots of learning and lots of fun. It also helps us to build new friendships and learn to become more independent too. Sometimes the teachers even buy us an ice-cream!

The Wise Owls love to read!

Here are some of the books that we read during whole class reading:
