Religious Education

"I’m glad that you have still got good Christian ethos."

PARENT COMMENT 2022

Religious Education at Gawber School

At Gawber, we develop a positive attitude and a love of learning towards Religious Education. We enthuse, inspire and educate young people by giving children the opportunity to learn and reflect about religious experiences that different people have had over time. With a philosophical focus, we enable our children to think beyond their normal daily experiences. Gawber Primary School follows a multi-faith approach. We provide a curriculum that allows children to develop lively enquiring minds with the ability to question and reflect on their experiences. We seek to instil respect for religious and moral values and tolerance of all races, religions and ways of life. We celebrate the different religious beliefs that our children have and often our children help to educate their peers through child led assemblies. We also have regular visitors into school to lead assemblies.

We follow the Barnsley Agreed Syllabus for RE using the Discovery RE scheme. This scheme ensures we have clear progression year upon year and helps us deliver exciting, interesting and relevant lessons.

The six key questions we will answer throughout key stage 1 and Key stage 2 are:

Why are these words special ?

Why are some places special ?

How can faith contribute to community cohesion ?

Why are sometimes special ?

What can be learned from the lives of significant people of faith ?

How do I and others feel about life and the universe around us ?

Parents/carers have the right to withdraw their child from RE or part of RE. Please speak to the school for further information.
