The Lucky Pennies!
Welcome to Class 5. Here are a few things that you will need to know…
The year 5 team
You will have two teachers this year.
PE
PE will be every Wednesday afternoon for the whole afternoon. You will need to come to school in your PE kit.
Spellings
Spellings will be sent home every Friday for you to learn. Mrs Haisman will test you on these spellings each week. Throughout the week you will learn the spelling rule that accompanies the list of spellings you have taken home. On Friday, you will also be tested on the ‘mystery spelling.’ This is a spelling that you will not have taken home but will test your knowledge of how to apply the rule.
Reading
Children in Year 5 are expected to read a few pages of their reading book at home every evening. They can read to themselves or aloud to an adult but this must be recorded in their reading record and signed by an adult. These will be checked every week.
Please bring your reading record into school every Friday.
Homework
Mrs Haisman will set homework every Friday. You will take this home in a book. Please return the book to school by Thursday.
Homework Club
Homework Club will run each Thursday lunchtime for children who have not been able to complete their homework at home. Children will be asked to complete their homework during Homework Club.
The Lucky Penny Jar
Filling the jar with all of the golden pennies means that you are owed a ‘Lucky Penny Day.’ This is an exciting treat day that rewards you for all of your hard work. The main way to earn the pennies is to complete your homework on time as each time you do, a penny will be added to the jar. You can also earn pennies for other reasons such as
